MAROUBRA BEACH, SYDNEY (Wednesday, 20th September 2017): Event three on the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series will hit the heart of Sydney this weekend, as 11 boardriders clubs attempt to earn themselves a position in the National Final, which will take place in Newcastle in 2018.

A slew of renowned clubmen, former World Championship Tour surfers, former Australian Champions and current junior dynamos will be partaking in the action when the elite one-day event kicks off at North Narrabeen on 23rd September.

Kai Otton (North Steyne), Nathan Webster (North Narrabeen), Russ Molony (North Shelly), Kirra-Belle Olsson (Avoca), Holly Wawn (Bungan), Dane Atcheson (Avoca) and Matt Bemrose (Curl Curl) are all slated to be surfing for their respective club.

“The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series event at Narrabeen is always one of the most fiercely contested competitions we see every year,” said Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden. “The region which extends from the Harbour Bridge to north of Nelson Bay, is the battleground for some of the most talented clubs in the country and it’s always exciting to see them in the playful beachbreaks of North Narrabeen each year as they attempt to qualify for the National Final.”

The 11 participating clubs include Queenscliff, North Shelly, North Narrabeen, Long Reef, Avoca, North Avalon (NASA), Bungan, Merewether, North Steyne, Wamberal (WEB), Curl Curl (CUBA).

The main base for event three of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series is North Narrabeen Beach.

Early swell forecasts indicate that there will be a one-to-two foot south-east swell on offer for competitors.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Series will involve more than 60 of Australia’s best boardriders clubs in eight state qualifying rounds and will culminate in a National final in NSW in February 2017 for 24 clubs.This weekend’s event will see 13 of the best boardriders clubs in NSW battle it out for a spot in the national final set to run in Newcastle, NSW in February 2018.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is officially sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL), which allows Australian WSL Championship Tour surfers (men and women) the opportunity to represent their local boardriders club at respective state qualifying events as well as the national final.

The purpose of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle program is to build the profile and capacity of community boardriders clubs Australia-wide. In the past four years, Surfing Australia has invested over $600,000 into Surfing Australia affiliated boardriders clubs as part of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle series.
